“Japanese designer Akane Hasui founded her label in Tokyo a decade ago. Our collaboration fuses the DNA of both brands as she plays with pattern, print and proportion, reimagining classic sports pieces to create a unique collection.

A focus on knitwear sees Akane play with Argyle, the pattern she believes most strongly represents our British heritage. The punchy colour palette is directly inspired by that of her own Spring/Summer 2019 collection, combined with black to give it a subcultural edge.

Akane’s take on the Fred Perry tennis skirt features wrap-around asymmetrical box-pleats and a ribbed folded waistband. The matching track jacket has been made in a classic Akane silhouette with a high funnel neck and a patch pocket on the sleeve.

The Fred Perry polo shirt is reinterpreted through Akane’s distinctive lens; based on her signature ribbed top she transforms the polo shirt presenting it fully knitted, colour blocked and with stripes and texture via chenille and ribbing.

Exploring the area Akane personally grew up in, she revisits Komazawa Olympic Park, inviting the photographer, Ittetsu Matsuoka, to bring a romantic touch to the area she was born and raised.”
