#heavenisaplaceonearth Meliá Hotels Opened Meliá Koh Samui in Thailand

Meliá Hotels International, the leading Spanish hotel group, together with the owning company, Asset World Corporation, celebrated the grand opening of a five-star property, Meliá Koh Samui, that commands a stunning beachfront setting, a lagoon pool and accommodations inspired by traditional Thai nautical designs.

Meliá Koh Samui is a 159-room and 41-suite property that features a host of world-class facilities such as four culinary outlets including a beach club and a swim-up bar, two swimming pools including a 2,200-cubic-metre main lagoon pool that loops through the grounds like a river, a four-treatment room spa, an executive lounge, a ballroom and a rich collection of conference facilities, a gymnasium, and more.

In a striking marriage of East and West, and a nod to Koh Samui’s history as a safe haven for fishermen, sailors and sea traders on the Gulf of Thailand, seating in the lobby resembles a cluster of small boats, while sections of the roof of the lobby and The Level executive lounge are shaped like a vessel’s hull. As their name suggests, The Level Boat Suites are inspired by traditional Thai vessels. Authentic teak rice barges have been repurposed to dominate their design.

As Koh Samui is one of the most popular places in Thailand to travel with family and kids, Meliá Koh Samui offers The Family Suite Rooms which include a master room for the adults, a huge sofa and in-room games for the family, as well as plenty of family-friendly facilities and activities such as a kids club, outdoor playground, and a mini water park.

As a complement to Koh Samui’s natural splendour and powder white shoreline, the resort’s design sets a contemporary tone with white, grey and black accentuated with timber trims, rattan decor and abstract blue artwork. Floor-to-ceiling glass panels usher in an abundance of natural light and afford spectacular vistas of the ocean, pools and tropical foliage. High ceilings enhance feelings of openness and spaciousness throughout the resort.

Following the opening of Meliá Koh Samui, Meliá Hotels International has another five properties in Thailand in the pipeline. Beyond Thailand, Meliá Hotels International is expanding throughout the region and has a total of 51 properties in the Asia Pacific, which are expected to open in the next few years.
