“I can’t swim” is a collection inspired by the refugee crisis that hit in my country. Millions of people crossed the Mediterranean Sea, reaching the Greek islands to find their way to Europe. This collection criticizes and points out the irony between two different worlds which happened to be on the same side of the beach. I inspired the colours and the playful atmosphere from the tourists and beach aesthetic, in contrast with the darkness and tragedy of the migrants. The silhouettes and the shapes came from the tents that the refugees turned into homes, the bags which they carried all their belongings, the life vests and the clothes they wore.”
