Omen

A KALTBLUT exclusive by Kiyoka Ikemura. A Japanese photographer from Tokyo. She has experience in fashion and advertising as an assistant to domestic and foreign photographers. She mainly shoots her friends as models as she works. She prefers vintage mixed styles more than high-fashion because she focuses on issues such as mass-produced apparel and consumed fashion icons.

The project “Omen” was shot before the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the series expressions and the contrast between light and darkness in these photographs make us think about the hopes and anxieties and seem to have predicted our current situation.

Rachel, who acts as a model, is a friend of the photographer, not a professional model. Therefore, the behaviour in front of the camera is awkward. Even she shows her confusion, she always tried to accomplish her role as a model, like people try to accomplish each roll in front of the webcam.
