Name: Ines Vilas Boas Age:  22 Menswear or Womenswear: Womenswear

KALTBLUT: Fashion – what does this mean to you?

I believe fashion is somehow a demonstration of consciousness, it is about the individual and the collective and the relationship between these. When I think of fashion I think of Identity, Character, and Expression. Fashion can be both empty and meaningful, this to say that a number of elements have to be taken accounts for, such as the individual, the context and the creator’s vision.

KALTBLUT: Can you tell us something about your current collection? What was your inspiration?
My latest collection was Flawed Beauty, in this collection which I developed as my BA Final Collection, the main inspiration came from my perspective of beauty found in our everyday lives. Inspired by people, things, and nature itself. As the name, Flawed Beauty suggests I focused on imperfections and natural flaws, mistakes or accidents, from the most ordinary to the most extraordinary. Finding beauty in all of these imperfections, such as accidental shapes, colors and movements were really fascinating and inspiring.
KALTBLUT: What kind of material did you use for the collection?
In order to create the standing movement I developed new techniques and utilized unconventional materials and fabrics, this allowed me to modulate the garments as a sculpture.
KALTBLUT: What challenges did you face during the design process?
My biggest challenge was probably to transcript my ideas into the physical pieces, it took a lot of work, research and methodology as well as it involved a lot of trial and error.
KALTBLUT: How would you describe your self and your work?
I believe that my work, it is a way of expressing my character and my personal aesthetics, or in other words, my perspective of the world. In every collection, I feel the urge to develop new textures and shapes inspired by my everyday surroundings. I take huge inspiration from art movements and combine it with the informality of everyday workwear, and the elegance of tailoring.
KALTBLUT: What would you say that is the biggest influence on your design process?
I believe I take in big consideration my partner opinion, we share a very similar vision of the world and a very similar aesthetic.
KALTBLUT: If you had not become a fashion designer, what would you do instead?
At the time that I was applying for a BA in fashion, I was in College, where we only develop different areas to do with arts. At that time I was really into Art Installation and Performative Arts, and I was considering an art career until I discovered Fashion, which I believe is a fusion of two worlds I relate to, art and clothing. People are the best canvas I had the opportunity to work with. To create garments and having people wearing them it is a very powerful thing.
KALTBLUT: Who’s your dream client?
I would like to see my garments being wear by everyone who feels something when wearing them.
KALTBLUT: What was the first item you have ever designed? And who was the lucky one to get it?
I believe, it was back around 2010, I designed an outfit for my sister.
KALTBLUT: What can we expect from you in near future?
I am planning to keep developing my brand and work on new collections, but on the other hand, I am projecting to work with other established companies, learn as much as possible from more experienced designers and reach the desired level of skills. Perhaps in the future, I will fill ready to dedicate myself full-time and sustainably develop my own projects and brand.
KALTBLUT: Where can we buy your fashion?

Soon, it will be possible to buy my garments from a fashion platform.
