The synergy of fashion and film. Call for entries for the Fashion Film Festival

A film about the collection, a short documentary or perhaps an innovative form of recording the show? The Fashion Film Festival does not limit the ingenuity of young designers. What counts is the creative action at the intersection of fashion and film. The organisers of the international competition, held as part of the Łódź Young Fashion event, are waiting for applications until 14 October. The winner – apart from the opportunity to present his/her work at the Łódź festival of young fashion – will receive a prize of EUR 5 000.

The Fashion Film Festival is a competition held for the second time as part of Łódź Young Fashion. The event is organised by the Władysław Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź with the support of the City of Łódź.

The FFF is aimed at young fashion designers under the age of 35 who present their projects created between 2018 and 2022 in a film format. This kind of artistic expression provides an opportunity to look at the collections in a different way, to broaden the audience and is a unique tool to support the promotion of the collections. At the same time, it provokes a creative clash with a new format and other artists involved in the production of the film.

The search for new forms of fashion presentation forced by the pandemic has created an interesting space, which we want to use and develop, following in the footsteps of the biggest fashion festivals in Berlin or Milan – says Katarzyna Wróblewska, artistic director of Łódź Young Fashion, adding that the competition is addressed mainly to designers, but also to creative collectives cooperating in the presentation of the designer’s collection.

The organisers are guided by the idea of promoting cooperation and combining the world of film and fashion. Competition entries can take a variety of artistic forms, but the most important thing is that they should be prepared in a short form and have as their main theme an original collection of clothing, jewellery or textiles. The jury is counting on the creative courage of the participants and an original look at the work of the young designers. The Jury will evaluate both – the collection itself and the language of the film.

The competition is designed to promote young talent and facilitate the professional start of students and graduates in fashion design. Talented, daring artists associated with fashion schools, art colleges and freelancers are invited to participate, presenting original collections and supporting their ideas through cinematic narrative forms.

The organizers are waiting for the applications until 14 October. All you need to do is fill in the online form available at lodzyoungfashion.com/fashion-film-festival and send the required files. In the first stage, between 10 and 15 of the best films will be selected to move on to the next stage. During the final show, on 25 November, the jury will name the winner, who will receive the grand prize of 5 000 EUR.

The Fashion Film Festival is one of the highlights of Łódź Young Fashion – an event that draws on the potential of the Władysław Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. The academy’s Fashion Institute trains professional fashion designers at the undergraduate and graduate levels. By perfecting its programmes and enriching its offer, the Institute boasts several generations of graduates – designers who have shaped and are shaping the contemporary fashion and design market.
