Urban Outfitters taps into the Berlin art scene for the latest Loom S/S23 campaign featuring German artist, Martin Dreves Castillo

Urban Outfitters launches the next instalment with in-house brand Loom, fronted by Berlin-based artist, Martin Dreves Castillo, a.k.a. Murt. Every season Loom collaborates with emerging artists from the UO Community to platform their work and craft, and this time it’s Murt. Styled in an all-new Loom and shot in Friedrichshain, Murt gives us an exclusive tour of his studio, showcasing his abstract style of artwork inspired by his surroundings, family, and friends.

“Get fly, real spill drip, community-connective, fun”, that’s how Murt describes the new SS23 Loom collection as he gets creative in relaxed tailoring and slouchy silhouettes.

The latest Loom collection continues to take an innovative approach to traditional tailoring, mixing vintage workwear inspirations with casual fabrications to create a range that can be worn by everyone. Suits feature softener washes that give the garments effortlessly fluid silhouettes, whilst earthy tones wash across the whole collection. Seersucker co-ords and signature twill sets remain on the scene as suiting gets a refresh with cord and textured cotton styles.

Speaking to Murt on his artistic approach he described it as: pentimento, it’s Italian for repentance. It’s when you go over something many times, and I go over my paintings many times, with many layers and many emotions.”

In talking about the importance of art, he said: “For me, art gives me peace and is a source of happiness.”

Following the tour of Murt’s studio, Urban Outfitters designers fell in love with his paintings, which led to the announcement of an official design collaboration for AW23. Murt and the team have utilised three paintings that will be incorporated into the Loom product. Launching in September 2023.
