Emerging from her unique artistry, Malonda has recently launched a visually arresting music video for her latest single “Scheißangst”, a refreshing mixture of personal struggle and artistic expression. Malonda’s experiences, especially a panic attack during a serene park walk a few years back, have fuelled this powerful piece. Overwhelmed by sudden symptoms like a racing heart, shortness of breath, and dizziness, a simple hill appeared as impossible as a mountain, with no one available to reach via phone. This harrowing experience inspired Malonda to encapsulate her battle with fear in “Scheißangst”, symbolically inviting her anxiety to dance in the narrative of her music.

Directed by Borbala, the music video transforms ordinary parks and meadows into starkly mesmerizing mountain-like landscapes. Malonda explores these sceneries alongside her fears, personified by choreographer Marie Scherzer, known for her work on projects like “Eldorado KaDeWe”. The visual blend achieved under Borbala’s guidance mixes vibrant colours and movements into a spectacle of physical image magic, reminiscent of a forbidden Eastern European art film from the eighties. The portrayal also touches on nuanced themes such as internalized biphobia and queer self-doubts, rendering it a compelling exploration of self-identity shot on grainy 16mm film.
“Scheißangst” marks the seventh single from Malonda’s debut album “Mein Herz ist ein dunkler Kontinent”, which continues to deliver surprises and revelations into its second year since release. Celebrating the album’s first anniversary, Malonda recently invited friends and fans, including notable figures like Jasmina Kuhnke, Kai Schumann, and Şeyda Kurt, to share their favourite tracks from the album and discuss them on Instagram.
Malonda’s distinctive voice and visionary art have established her in a league of her own. As she continues to challenge the conventional boundaries of music and visual art, “Scheißangst” will resonate with fans and new audiences, confirming her position as a bold and innovative artist in the contemporary music scene.
