‘Be Myself’ – Chase Bell’s necessary call

Evaluating the current panorama, it would be safe to say that modernity, social networks, stereotypes, and fashion make the task of staying true to who we are more and more difficult. Whether it’s because we want to look like our idol, because we want to fit in with a group, or because we don’t like something about ourselves, we human beings tend to lose our essence amid the hustle and bustle of the world around us.

The message of ‘Be Myself’, the newly released song by American singer-songwriter Chase Bell, is an ode to the autonomy of the human being and, in a way, it’s also a call to reflection.

Sonically speaking this song is a bewitching pop anthem where you can feel the drive at the first resonance of Chase’s voice as he says:

“They tell me to be myself
But I don´t know what they mean
Every day I wake
just to make another mistake
cause’ I need a little more practicing”

The song starts humbly with a consistent guitar-based groove that develops into a hook that feels like a conversation that ends up being absolutely true:

“You just do you
I just do me
That’s all we can do
That’s all we can be”

Chase said, “this song however is the shift of perspective I found inside of me that allowed me to accept that I am in a unique position to know who I am and where I want to be and so I should first and foremost ask myself these deep questions and find direction from within”.

Chase’s mother was a jazz singer and performed regularly around NYC. At age 19, he left the US and lived between London and Rome, and performed and recorded his original music.

Today, he also has his own professional music recording studio in the artistic heart of LA where he records and refines his own pop music, the music of other artists, and the music he composes for commercials and films, including Lucifer (FOX), various Lifetime movies, award-winning commercials, and PSAs. He frequently collaborates with his sister, actress Emma Bell (The Walking Dead, Dallas).

With this song, Chase hopes to build ‘confidence in the listener and a feeling of power (…) even when you seem to be a little strange or even are broken down for societies many boxes that seem to be thrust upon us’.
