HOT COUTURE by Jakub Jasiński

Taken from our new digital issue. Jakub Jasiński: “I am a young designer from Poland and a fashion design (scenography) student of the UAP Poznan. I am also active in the Polish queer community, creating costumes for drag queens and other performers.

My graduation project, a mini-collection entitled “HOT COUTURE”, refers to the fashion of the late 80s/early 90s, the vision of exaggerated femininity and the works of Thierry Mugler and the related inspirations of robotics and lingerie. It is also an attempt to blur the line between the definition of a costume as a set of jacket and skirt/pants and a costume in theatrical terms. The designs, although they are unlikely to function as practical everyday clothes popular in pandemic, embody a somewhat unrealistic fantasy of a woman’s appearance, which with its geometric forms, color and humour is definitely different from the grey reality of the times we are currently in.”

In collaboration with the photographer Igor Drozdowski, make-up artist Paulina Kurowiak and model Wiktoria Karzyńska (Neva Models) we created a photo session of my projects, also kept in 80s/90s climate.
