Gianna Shamone was born in Hamburg, where she was raised by three women, spending most of her childhood in her mom‘s hair salon. Feeling the need to manifest an outlet for her love for creative expression, she taught herself to work as an analogue photographer, set designer, and music video director. This project is about opening the discussion on toxic masculinity in our society and see how we can change the narrative.
“The project was supposed to be a part of a collaboration in March of this year, then when Corona happened, it got cancelled. But I couldn’t stop thinking about it and decided to go for it anyway by financing it myself and shooting it in my living room. Then I showed the photos to my friend Ivan and he offered to bring his videocamera the next time I’m having a similar project because he loved it so much. But we didn’t want to wait for the next project and spontaneously decided to create an interview with a few of the models to emphasize the meaning behind the topic: Toxic Masculinity.”
The models in the interview are
