Screw the Catwalk: Richert Beil Takes Over Kreuzberg with Permanent Store and “10 Gebote” Auction

While the rest of the Berlin Fashion Week calendar was busy clinging to the traditional runway, Jale Richert and Michele Beil just completely rewrote the rulebook. Let’s be real: Richert Beil is not just a personal favourite of mine; they are easily one of the most vital, intelligent, and important German brands defining contemporary fashion right now. On Friday evening, the brilliant design duo bypassed the catwalk entirely to pull off a spectacular coup: opening their very first permanent standalone store, Apotheke, with a radical, interactive bidding concept.

Located in a historic former pharmacy at Muskauer Straße 41 in the heart of Berlin-Kreuzberg, the space is an absolute dream. The designers have genially preserved much of the original architecture, creating a tense, beautiful contrast against Richert Beil’s signature, razor-sharp monochrome aesthetic. With its pared-back displays and curation, the venue feels less like a traditional boutique and more like a fluid hybrid of a gallery and a high-concept space.

“Apotheke is conceived as a space for hospitality and exchange,” Jale Richert and Michele Beil explain. “Inspired by the openness, structure and aesthetics of a restaurant kitchen, it brings together our studio, production, exhibition, and retail in one modular environment. Rather than presenting a runway show this season, we wanted to create a format that encourages direct dialogue with our community.”

That dialogue manifested as “10 Gebote” (10 Commandments), an open-bidding auction featuring ten handcrafted, one-of-a-kind pieces straight from their Berlin atelier. From pleated wrap skirts and windbreakers to apron shirts and ruffle pants, guests spent the night submitting bids that will run for a full week.

True to the label’s subversive nature, the presentation skipped standard price tags for menu-style cards detailing the Name, Size, Ingredients (materials), and Cooking Time of each garment. Under Season, the cards dropped a delicious first hint of what’s to come for Spring/Summer 2027. Set around a massive central table adorned with ceramic works by artist Jana Francke and culinary curation by Caro Schechtner, the entire evening felt alive, communal, and effortlessly cool.

For those wanting immediate gratification, a curated Ready-to-Buy selection from previous collections was up for grabs, ranging from their exquisite tailored blazers to signature ruffle blouses and tops.

Since founding the studio in 2014, Jale and Michele have consistently pushed the boundaries of craftsmanship and cultural production. With Apotheke, they aren’t just selling clothes—they are bridging the gap between the atelier and the street, solidifying their status as the absolute vanguard of German fashion.

Apotheke is now permanently open to the public at Muskauer Straße 41, Berlin-Kreuzberg.
