Singer-songwriter Sibb (Kamau Romano) unveils the captivating visuals for his soul-pop single “Mine,” released through Embassy of Music. This launch serves as the first instalment of a cinematic trilogy that brings the conceptual depth of his debut EP, Delusion, to life on screen.
“Mine” marks a significant turning point in Sibb’s three-act EP narrative, transitioning from the “hyper-romanticism” of his earlier works to a pointed critique of hypersexuality. “The song is a narrative of coercion,” says the Trinidadian-born artist. “It delves into how hypersexuality desensitises those who embrace it, while simultaneously dehumanising those it impacts.” Musically, “Mine” draws influence from the vocal might of soul legends like Sylvester and Patti LaBelle, creating a rich sonic landscape.
In partnership with creative duo Dietrich and Koch, Sibb has curated a “cautionary aura” for the visuals accompanying “Mine.” Incorporating costume designs inspired by fairytale villains and a striking “danger red” aesthetic, the music video embodies the song’s darker undertones. Sibb perceives this visual narrative as a “vessel” for communicating the track’s message, utilising contrasting imagery and sharp forms to accentuate the emotional fluidity within the music.
This exciting release comes on the heels of a transformative two-year journey for Sibb, known for his engaging live performances across Germany. He has graced notable stages like Fusion Festival, Kantine am Berghain, Kampnagel Hamburg, and Schwankhalle Bremen. This rising visibility culminated in his discovery at the Nürnberg Pop Festival and the beginning of his fruitful collaboration with Berlin-based Embassy of Music—a label celebrated for its association with global icons such as Robyn, Björk, and Moby.
Now residing in Bremen, Sibb has made a deliberate transition from a prestigious academic background in engineering to the music scene. Following a significant mentorship with renowned Trinidadian jazz musician Vaughnnette Bigford, he adopted the stage name Sibb—an acronym for “simple black boy”—to make a powerful statement on identity. From hosting “writers’ open mic” sessions to appearing on national television, Sibb has evolved into a multifaceted artist where visual artistry and sound harmoniously coexist.
