Ver-o-Peso: A Story from Belém
“This visual narrative unfolds at 6 a.m. in the heart of Ver-o-Peso, the largest open-air market in Latin America, founded in 1627, located in Belém in the Brazilian Amazon. More than a production, this project is a personal exercise in returning to this space. I placed my own body within this iconic environment, moving through it while capturing images from the inside out. Instead of directing the scene, I chose to follow the existing rhythm of the market, respecting the people and the daily labour that sustains it.
In this context, fashion isn’t a spectacle but a language coexisting with everyday life. My body doesn’t impose itself on the space; it negotiates its presence by sometimes blending in and sometimes detaching, creating a subtle tension between belonging and displacement.
The market, with its heat, textures, and constant movement, is far more than a backdrop. It is an active field that reshapes every image through chance interactions. By focusing on one of the most emblematic urban spaces in the Amazon, I wanted to move beyond familiar representations of the region and engage with its lived, everyday dimension. In this process of reconnection, my body becomes both subject and medium, allowing these images to emerge from a place of coexistence and deep respect.”
