Viste tu mierda by Germán Martinez and Tania Marcial

Germán Martinez (cinematographer) and Tania Marcial (upcycling designer) have created, side by side, PLASTIC, a fashion film dedicated to climate change issues and the use of plastic. This project arose from an exhibition that took place in Terrassa (Barcelona), the last December 14th.  The theme was mainly based on how the textile industry is correlated to climate change.  This was carried out by a self-managed cultural association established by local young creatives.

From this exhibition, it has emerged a look made by ‘useless’ plastics that we are no other but forced to buy due to the industry. Trousers made by Ana Solá and  and jacket by Tania Marcial.Through these garments, we have created our own concept called ‘Viste tu mierda’ (dress up your shit).

“Since Anna and I have studied fashion design, we’ve been able to take an insight look into this industry, coming to the saddest conclusion, that this overproduction is meaningless. This is how and why our careers have developed into a sustainable way of fashion. We met thanks to this exhibition, “on how the textile industry is correlated to climate change”.  This was carried out by a self-managed cultural association established by local young creatives (El corralito).

During the process, we’ve carefully thought about the massive quantity of plastic that’s created daily and how this is going to end up in our live. This is just as exaggerated and sarcastic as ‘ending up wearing our own trash’.

The research for materials couldn’ve been easier not cheaper as most plastics have been collected from public bins, parks, city streets or even from our own waste. With all of this, we’ve created these XXL garments symbolizing the big issue they’re becoming.

In the video we wanted to reflect the relationship between our society and this troublesome material. A love-hate relationship caused by its necessity and how ephemeral it is. Ephemeral taking into account that it remains on the planet for millions of years.

We have chosen Alejandro Jesusi (Model) because we intend to make queer gender visible, taking into account all biological, social and cultural categories, emphasizing ethnicity. More points to be visible in this second decade of the 21st century.
