The cityscape becomes a canvas for this monumental light art from 31 May to 29 September at DARK MATTER, transforming the urban night into an immersive visual and acoustic journey as part of the SOMMERLIGHTS 2024 festival.

A Symphony of Light and Sound
Christopher Bauder, renowned for his boundary-pushing luminous art, collaborates with Dutch virtuoso Chris Kuijten to marry light and sound in an unprecedented experience. Kuijten’s multi-channel, immersive soundtrack elevates the visual spectacle, crafting a holistic sensorial domain where each note and beam syncs perfectly.

The installation’s sprawling array of 1,000 movable lights featuring over 30,000 control points orchestrates a breathtaking ballet of luminance that mimics the chaos and the tranquillity of nature — every wave and curve drawn with organic randomness and meticulous precision.

The scene set by FLOW portrays an eternal ocean, with luminescent waves that approach and recede in a tranquil yet dynamic rhythm, echoing the ebb and flow of the sea against a distant shore. Every evening post-sunset, the expanse outside DARK MATTER comes alive with a 45-minute light show that repeats through the night. With no fixed start times, the installation invites you to delve into the experience at your leisure, allowing the art to unfold around you as you arrive and linger.
